Ceramic Workshop - Bracciano
The workshop takes place in a former Etruscan cave, today’s ArtIdec gallery, situated in the stunningly beautiful old part of Bracciano, next to Odescalchi Castle.
We can tailor this workshop according to your and your group's wishes and availability.
You will get a chance to meet local artists, spend time in the old town, visit Odescalchi Castle and go for walks along Lake Bracciano.
The workshop instructor is ceramic artist Pirjo Eronen who lives and works in Tolfa (Rome).
The ArtIdec-gallery is owned by artist Leena Knuuttila, who lives and works in Bracciano. Leena specialises in small sculptures, ceramics and painting.
Leena opened the gallery in 2006, and by now it is well-established in Bracciano, exhibiting both local and foreign innovative art. Moreover, it hosts concerts, seminars, courses and an annual ceramics festival. The gallery aims to increase local artistic expertise by making traditional art forms re-emerge within different cultural-historical contexts.
BRACCIANO
Bracciano is located 30 kilometres Northwest of Rome. It is famous for its vulcanic Lake Bracciano, the old town and Odescalchi Castle.
Programme

The 1st day
After your breakfast – and perhaps a morning swim in Lake Bracciano – you will be all set to experience the first day of the workshop. Ceramic artist Pirjo Eronen will tell us about her own artistic work, which has been exhibited internationally. Later, artist Leena Knuuttila will welcome us in her fascinating ArtIdec-gallery. On this first day, Pirjo will discuss and plan the works to be made during the workshop with everyone.
Lunch is to be enjoyed in one of the locals’ favourite restaurants in the idyllic old town. Afterwards you will have time to explore the town, experience Italian daily life, browse through Bracciano’s small boutiques or go and enjoy picturesque view over Lake Bracciano.
Pirjo will finish the second part of the class at 7pm but you can stay longer in the gallery.
The 2nd day
The whole day will be devoted to the workshop, but you can plan your day according to your own wishes in order to make the most of your time in Italy and create one of your best ceramic works ever. You can have lunch in town, go for a walk and enjoy the mood of beautiful Bracciano. The afternoon class finishes at 5p.m. but the gallery is also open in the evening.
The 3rd day
Free day. You can either work on your own at the gallery or take the day off.
The 4th day
While Pirjo will look after the first combustion of your ceramic works, you can take a train to Rome, 30 kilometres away, or visit the medieval town of Trevignano, 12 kilometres away and a favourite among artists.
The 5th day
In the morning we will head into the center of the idyllic green hills of Tolfa – to Pirjo’s amazing studio in peaceful surroundings where you only see green hills and trees accompanied by the sounds of wind and birds. The bus transfer is included in the price. We will get a chance to see Pirjo’s own work and make time for the second combustion of the works. This day will certainly stay in your memory.
Because Italian food is definitely another art form, we will enjoy a Tuscan dinner in Un Altra Bottiglia in Bracciano.
The 6th day

In the morning we visit the famous Odescalchi-castle where the singer Eros Ramazzotti and actor Tom Cruise, among the other celebrities, celebrated their weddings. In the castle we will also get a chance to see a ceramics collection from the 16th century. In the afternoon we will pay a visit to artist Leena Knuuttila to see her studio.
Later, we will again have dinner together in Bracciano.
